The Beautiful Hebrides- (A personal journey)

The first glimpse of these islands awakens a dormant thought in our minds. Our hearts murmur in perfect harmony with the surrounding environment. We shed the greyness of the city and step out into a new world of discovery and adventure. This is our time to unwind.

Before your eyes are the enchanting Hebrides, almost unchanged from when our first settlers arrived more than eight thousand years ago, but equally as dramatic and astounding. This is a landscape laced with powder beaches and indented sea lochs which split the land with ease and meander effortlessly into the interior of the Island.

As you step ashore for the first time there is a sense of tranquillity all around. The air smells fresh, pure and scented with the fragrance of summer and nature. On rocks seals laze and flap and appear to be waving to you with a raised flipper to welcome you to their world.

Above the high peaks clouds cling to the tops as in a game of hide and seek with the wind incase they are moved  away way too soon. In the distance the sounds of the island whisper in your ear and the humming of the ocean makes the heart restless to begin the journey of discovery.

Running over the sand dunes you catch your first glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean and the powder white sand. This is the moment of release and the realisation that you have finally arrived in this place. The smiles return, the eyes brighten and the burden of that other life is quickly forgotten.

The urge inside you draws you to the azure ocean. Socks and shoes are discarded and the coolness of the sand is like a healing balm on tired feet. You step into the crisp clear water unafraid and content in your moment of triumph. Yes your journey is complete. Welcome to the Hebrides.
